Who They Are and What They Do
The Labourers For Christ organization in
Canada is made up largely of retired or semi-retired Christians within Lutheran
Church-Canada. Anyone18 years of age and older may become a Labourer For Christ.
They come from all walks of life, those with experience helping those with less
experience. They do physical labour for Christ working for congregations and
other church-related organizations at the minimum wage of that province. They
help build churches, schools, parish halls, retirement homes, camp facilities;
anything that needs building to further our church's ministry in bringing the
Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of our country.
Some rostered members of Labourers For Christ have a recreational vehicle (RV)
that they move to the work site for the duration of the project. If someone does
not have an RV, the congregation will provide billeting or trailer
accommodations.
Labourers For Christ rostered members who are employed by a congregation attend
worship services and take part in activities just as they would in their home
congregations. As called, committed servants of Christ they help further His
Kingdom through their labour, their daily witness and by displaying the joy that
worshipping together brings. They are further strengthened in His Word through
daily group devotions.
The organizational body is composed of a Director ( whose appointment is
approved by the Board of Directors of Lutheran Church-Canada), an Advisory
Committee made up of an Executive Secretary, Synodical District Representatives
(one from each District), Consultant, Synod Contact Person, Secretary to the
Advisory Committee, and a Publicist along with their spouses, if applicable.
These people volunteer their time to maintain the program, but do have their
expenses covered.
